Manchester United seriously considering Michael Carrick extension, face Tottenham battle

Manchester United are seriously considering appointing Michael Carrick on a permanent basis, but face competition from Tottenham.

Michael Carrick was handed the reins of his former club on a temporary basis at the start of the year following Ruben Amorim’s sacking. The Manchester United legend has done wonders for them and has even won the Premier League Manager of the Month for January.

On the back of his impressive work, Carrick’s future has now become a massive talking point. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United’s hierarchy are thrilled with the impact he has had, and they are now seriously considering handing him the role full-time.

However, they are not the only club interested in a deal for Michael Carrick; even Tottenham are quite impressed with his work and would love to have him on their bench starting next season.

Carrick started his coaching career at Manchester United. He was an assistant manager to Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for well over three years. The Englishman even led them as an interim manager in three games before taking charge as Middlesbrough’s manager.

While things did not end well for him at the Championship club, he surely impressed one and all with his managerial style during those three years. It seems that experience is coming in handy for Carrick in the English top flight.

Carrick to continue at Old Trafford beyond this season?

Michael Carrick was handed the reins of the Red Devils last month following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal. The 44-year-old has since led them in five Premier League games. Not only are they unbeaten, but Manchester United have also won four of those fixtures. Carrick has managed to completely transform the mood in the camp.

While Jason Wilcox and his team continue their due diligence on all managerial options, the report suggests that Wilcox and his staff expected Carrick to force his name into contention. Privately, they are delighted that he has done exactly what they were hoping for.

Tottenham are also keen on Michael Carrick

Carrick is among the favourites to take over as Manchester United’s full-time boss. However, even if the Red Devils decide against making the appointment permanent, there will be no shortage of top-flight interest.

Another former club, Tottenham, are keen on his services and are closely monitoring his work at Old Trafford, believing his qualities and system would be a perfect fit for their project. Spurs considered offering him the job last summer and are now set to return for his signature next summer.
