Tottenham Hotspur will continue to back Thomas Frank despite their poor run of results, even as links with Xavi gather pace.
Tottenham’s decision to sack Europa League-winning manager, Ange Postecoglou, received mixed reactions as he might have failed to deliver in the league, but he did guide them to an important title after years of struggle. The North London club replaced him with Thomas Frank, hoping the former Brentford manager would help them build on their European triumph.
However, things haven’t gone according to plan for the club as well as the manager. They have to struggle under Frank, and the pressure continues to rise on the 52-year-old Danish manager. But according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Tottenham are prepared to give him more time to turn things around.
Spurs are currently 14th on the table with 27 points in their 22 outings. While the win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League was a massive boost, they have been below par in the league and have only won one out of their last seven league outings.
Frank only averages 1.32 points per game at Spurs, having won 12 and lost 13 out of his 34 matches in charge. The disappointing 2-2 draw against Burnley last time was another blow for the club, and it has resulted in a lot of talk about the manager’s future.
Spurs will continue to back Frank
While speaking about Frank’s future, O’Rourke said, “For Tottenham, let’s wait and see what they decide to do with Thomas Frank.
“Maybe he could turn things around there and keep his job, if not, I’m sure there’ll be a number of managers that they will look at, obviously Premier League based and elsewhere as well.
“Xavi being a free agent makes him an interesting option for both (Man United and Spurs), but I don’t think he’s probably top of the list for either club if they do look to bring in new managers“
Fans are calling for him to be sacked, amidst links with former Barcelona boss Xavi, who is still waiting for the right project to return to management. He is eager to manage in the Premier League, and a club like Tottenham could be a perfect fit for the former Spanish international.
He could get the right amount of time to build a meaningful project at a club like Spurs. While Xavi seems to be the favourite to replace him, Frank still has time on his hands. Despite their struggles, the board continues to back him. They are optimistic about him turning things around.
