Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in advanced talks to seal Manchester United return

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks to bring Ole Gunnar Solksjaer back to the club in a caretaker role.

Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim on Monday, and following his sacking, the Red Devils have been on the lookout for a new manager. While they have been linked with quite a few top managers, it seems a familiar face in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to return to the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Solksjaer could soon take charge at Old Trafford as caretaker boss until the end of the season. The former Manchester United player and manager is in advanced talks with the Premier League club to replace Amorim until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Ole Gunner Solskjaer was first handed the reins of the club towards the end of 2018. Although initially appointed as caretaker manager, the team did wonders in his 19 matches in charge, and on the back of that run, the club handed him the job permanently.

The Manchester United legend was the manager for over two years and went on to manage another 149 games. While the Norwegian did wonders for them in the initial years, things eventually collapsed, and they ended up parting ways with him towards the end of 2021.

Ole is set to return to the wheel

Following his departure from the club, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer even managed Besiktas, but it was for a very short period of time. Now, he looks set to be back at Old Trafford after Amorim’s untimely departure.

While things had improved under the Portuguese manager in comparison to last season, the board was no longer convinced that he was the right guy and behind the scenes, tension between the manager and those higher up led to his sacking.

Darren Fletcher has been asked to take charge of the game against Burnley, but it seems he is not in contention to be involved with the first team further. As a result, they have been looking at other options, and Ole seems to be at the top of their wishlist.

Manchester United do not want to rush into signing another top manager mid-season; as a result, they have asked the 52-year-old to take charge on a temporary basis until the end of the season. He has no problems with the length of the contract and has already given the green light. Both parties are in advanced talks, and they could soon reach an agreement on all grounds.
