Ryan Mason given ultimatum to accept West Bromwich Albion job

West Bromwich Albion vs Southampton: Preview and Prediction ahead of their EFL Championship Playoffs semifinal first leg..

West Bromwich Albion have given Tottenham assistant manager Ryan Mason an ultimatum to accept their job offer.

West Bromwich Albion are on the lookout for a new manager and they have their eyes set on Tottenham’s Ryan Mason. The Championship outfit have been in talks with the Spurs assistant manager in recent weeks and according to a report from Football Insider, they have given the English coach an ultimatum to accept their offer by Sunday night.

A serious injury forced Mason to take an early retirement from football and without wasting any time, he went into coaching straightaway. He has been a part of the Tottenham setup since 2018. While he started off with their youth academy, he has been involved with the first team since 2021.

The 33-year-old might not have managed a team at the highest level yet but he has chipped in as Tottenham’s caretaker manager on two occasions following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. Currently, he is a part of Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff as an assistant.

While he might not have managerial experience, he has learned his craft from some of the biggest managers in the world and has shown that he can handle teams at the highest level having managed Spurs for 13 games in his two stints.

His contract at the North London club runs until 2027 but he could be on the way out this summer as he has an opportunity to be West Brom’s manager. The Hawthorns have been without a manager since April when they parted ways with Tony Mowbray just three months into his tenure.

He came in to replace Carlos Corberan, who had left the club mid-way through the season to join Valencia. Unfortunately, Mowbray couldn’t get the desired results and West Brom ended up showing him the exit door.

West Brom want Mason to decide his future by tonight

They have been looking for a new manager for a while and Tottenham’s Mason is quite high on their wishlist. The Championship outfit are all set to undergo a major rebuild in the summer and they want someone who can help fulfil their ambition of securing a return to the top flight.

Despite not having any experience at the highest level, West Brom are willing to bet on Mason, who has been with Spurs’ senior team for some time. They have been in talks with the 33-year-old for well over a week now.

Reports earlier suggested that he is close to agreeing on a deal as talks are at an advanced stage. But Mason is not yet certain if he wants to leave Spurs for West Brom or continue being Postecoglou’s assistant. The Hawthorns also have their eyes on other targets if they fail to convince Mason.

They have already tabled an offer and want to get done with it quickly. As a result, they have given the 33-year-old an ultimatum to accept the role. He has until Sunday night to make a final call. If he is still undecided, West Brom will start making moves to appoint someone else.
