Manchester United reportedly failed to lure VfB Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness to Old Trafford during the summer.
According to a report from Sport Bild, Manchester United did make an attempt to sign Sebastian Hoeness as their next boss before they ended up extending Erik ten Hag’s contract in the summer. While they did hold talks with the VfB Stuttgart boss, he declined the opportunity to move to Old Trafford.
While Ten Hag had guided United to the FA Cup title by defeating arch-rivals Manchester City, his future was still uncertain and the club chiefs were on the lookout for an ideal candidate who could replace the Dutch manager.
The Red Devils held talks with a few of their top targets and Hoeness was one of the names on their wishlist. The 42-year-old has done wonders at Stuttgart. He guided them to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga last season and in the process ended up getting them into the Champions League.
Apart from the team’s overall success, his style of play had attracted interest from United. They considered him an ideal candidate for the long run and wanted him to be their next boss.
