Federico Chiesa will not feature for Liverpool against Bologna in the UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield on Wednesday.
Liverpool picked up a win over AC Milan in their UEFA Champions League opener, and they will be confident of grinding out a good result when they welcome Bologna to Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds will be without the services of Harvey Elliott because of a foot injury. Meanwhile, summer signing Federico Chiesa picked up a knock in training, and the Italian international is expected to miss out. Diogo Jota has missed training this week, but manager Arne Slot has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the Portuguese international is fit to face Bologna.
The Liverpool boss said, “Federico trained with us yesterday and came in today with some problems, and I’m not expecting him to be in the team tomorrow. Which is a pity for us but of course for him even more. He was looking forward to a Champions League night at Anfield and especially because we’re facing an Italian team.”
“It’s a pity for him but he will be there [in the future], many more nights to come for him. Diogo missed out on two sessions after the game against Wolves. He took a knock. I’m expecting him to be with us tomorrow, that he’s available to play.”
Liverpool are likely to shape up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Bologna, with Alisson Becker in goal. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson will look to help out defensively and create goalscoring opportunities going forward for their teammates. They will be deployed in the full-back areas. Ibrahima Konate will start at the heart of the defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.
As for the midfield unit, Ryan Gravenberch will start alongside Alexis Mac Allister in the double pivot. The two players will look to help out defensively and add creativity and control to the side.
Dominik Szoboszlai will start as the central attacking midfielder here, and the Hungarian will look to create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates in the final third. Mohamed Salah will start on the right flank, with Luis Diaz on the left. Finally, Darwin Nunez is expected to lead the line for Liverpool, with Jota an option on the bench.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez
