Liverpool could reach an agreement with Ruben Amorim by next week to be their new manager starting next season.
According to Pedro Sepúlveda, Liverpool’s search for a new manager could end next week as they hope to reach an agreement with Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager has made quite a name for himself thanks to his impressive work and he seems set to take over from Jurgen Klopp ahead of next season.
It has been a while since Klopp announced his decision to part ways with the Reds at the end of the season. While the decision did come as a shock for one and all, the German manager did give the Merseyside club enough time to find an ideal replacement.
They have been on the lookout for a new boss for months and have been linked to quite a few top managers. Xabi Alonso was their priority target for the job but the former Liverpool midfielder ended up committing his future to Bayer Leverkusen.
Ruben Amorim could soon agree terms with Liverpool
Following Alonso’s decision, Sporting CP boss Amorim became the top candidate for the role and they are closing in on his signatures. The Reds have been in talks with his agent of late as they look to win the race for his services.
He has been in charge of the Portuguese club since the start of 2020. The 39-year-old has helped them win numerous titles already and they are on course for a few more this season.
Amorim was in no rush to make a decision regarding his future as he wanted to focus on the job at hand which is to help Sporting win the league title and the domestic cup. But, he did keep his options open by not committing his future to the Portuguese club.
Their recent win over 2nd-placed Benfica is a huge boost for their title hopes. They now have a four-point advantage at the top with a game in hand. As far as the domestic cup is concerned, they are already in the final.
As a result, the win over their rivals Benfica will speed up negotiations between the 39-year-old and Liverpool as per Sepúlveda. The Reds hope to reach an agreement with Amorim over the terms of the contract by next week.
