Jurgen Klopp will ring in the changes when Liverpool and West Ham United clash at Anfield in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
Liverpool have failed to win the last two matches across all competitions, and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they welcome West Ham United to Anfield on Wednesday night.
The home fans will be expecting a strong reaction from the players after a disappointing performance against Manchester United last time out. Meanwhile, West Ham United are going through a purple patch, and they will look to pull off an upset at Anfield and head into the last four of the competition.
Liverpool have several injury problems heading into this contest. Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Andrew Robertson are long-term absentees for Liverpool. Alexis Mac Allister picked up a knee injury against Crystal Palace, and he will return to action next month.
Diogo Jota has resumed training, but the Portuguese international is unlikely to be risked here. Talented young winger Ben Doak is sidelined with a knee injury he picked up on Sunday. Pepijn Lijnders provided a team news update during his pre-match press conference.
He said, “Alexis is progressing well. He doesn’t have pain anymore, which is a good thing. It was worse than we first thought, but he is progressing well, no pain. Let’s see if we can progress him.”
Lijnders then added, “Diogo is doing ball work on the pitch so that is getting closer and closer. But always with hamstring injuries you have to be careful, we always say when they come back give them another two or three days for sure.”
Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal for the Reds on Wednesday. Ibrahima Konate should feature alongside Jarell Quansah at the heart of the defence. Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas will start as the full-backs, and they will look to help out in the attack as well.
In the midfield, Wataru Endo will feature as the defensive midfielder. The Japanese international will look to break up opposition attacks and win the ball back for his side. Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones will look to add creativity and control to the side.
Ryan Gravenberch started against Manchester United, but he is likely to be rested here because of fatigue. Finally, Cody Gakpo is likely to lead the line for Liverpool against West Ham United. Mohamed Salah will continue on the right with Luiz Diaz starting on the left.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Kelleher; Gomez, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Elliott, Endo, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz
