Manchester United will have to pay over £15 million if they sack Erik ten Hag

Manchester United will have to fork out over £15 million if they decide to part ways with Dutch manager Erik ten Hag.

According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United will have to pay over £15 million if they want to sack Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager has had a tough start to the new season and his team has failed to reach the standards of last season. As a result, a sacking could be on the cards.

Ten Hag made a name for himself during his time at Ajax. The Dutch manager led the Eredivisie club in 215 matches and they managed to maintain an average of 2.04 points per game. The United boss won numerous titles at the club and his impressive performance attracted a lot of attention.

Manchester United managed to secure his services in the summer of 2022. Ten Hag had an impressive start to life in England. His team won the Carabao Cup and managed to finish third in the Premier League in his very first season. It was considered to be a successful season and the start of something new at the club.

But, they haven’t been able to build on what they did last season. The team is struggling to win games. While they have had a major injury crisis in defence, this United squad is still expected to put up a much better show. They have featured in 10 league games and are currently eight on the points table with 15 points.

The Red Devils have lost five league games and in the Champions League, they have only won once so far. Ten Hag’s position at the club could be under threat if the performances do not improve. But, it won’t be easy for Manchester United as it will cost them a significant amount to part ways with the Dutch manager.

Ten Hag has a contract until the summer of 2025 and there is an option to extend it by another 12 months. He earns around £9 million per year at the Manchester-based club. As a result, they will have to fork out a significant amount to sack the 53-year-old.

The Glazers will have to pay him his guaranteed salary for the length of his contract to part ways with him. It will cost the Red Devils well over £15 million. Sacking his staff will also cost they a significant sum. As a result, it won’t be an easy decision to make from a financial viewpoint.

They have already lost significant amounts in the past. They paid £15 million to part ways with Ralf Rangnick and have forked out around £38 million sacking the likes of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
