Antonio Conte to part ways with Tottenham Hotspur as the club look to appoint Ryan Mason as their interim boss.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to hand over the reins of the club to Ryan Mason. With Antonio Conte likely to part ways with the club, the former Spurs player could take charge of the club.
Conte’s future at Tottenham has been uncertain for a while now. And, his departure is a matter of time according to a report by Fichajes following his harsh words against the club and the players in a recent press conference.
The Italian boss exploded at the press conference after their draw against bottom-placed Southampton. Spurs had a two-goal lead but ended up drawing 3-3 against the Saints. The result didn’t go down well with the Italian manager as he blasted his players in his media interaction.
Conte said: “We are not a team. We are players who go out on the field. I see selfish players, who don’t want to help themselves and don’t have a heart. I have tried to hide the situation and improve it. You need to have this at all times. This season, compared to the previous one, we are worse in this regard.”
Conte didn’t stop there as he even talked about why Spurs haven’t won a major trophy for ages.
Tottenham’s exit from the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 at the hands of AC Milan brought Conte’s place at the club under scrutiny. His press conference comments have just made matters worse. And as per the reports, he will be on his way out soon.
Meanwhile, the London club are looking to appoint Ryan Mason as their interim manager. The former Spurs player has been a part of their coaching setup since the summer of 2019. He has had different roles at the club over the past few years and was their caretaker manager in the summer of 2021.
Mason did a decent job as their caretaker manager having won 4 out of the 7 matches he was in charge of. The 31-year-old is currently their Technical Coach and is likely to be appointed as the interim boss yet again. But, this time he might have 10 games to showcase his potential.
The former Spurs player has a good relationship with star striker Harry Kane. And, he is a well-respected figure in their dressing room. With Conte’s departure almost a certainty, Mason might be asked to fill in until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are on the look for a new boss. They are interested in bringing back Mauricio Pochettino. The former Paris Saint-Germain manager would love to return to the club. However, they might look to sign him ahead of next season rather than bringing him at this stage with just a few months left in the season.
