Paul Pogba is set to miss the Qatar World Cup as he recovers from knee surgery, thus compounding Didier Deshamps’ midfield problems.
According to Gazzetta, Paul Pogba is set to miss the World Cup as he recovers from knee surgery. The midfielder has not played for Juventus since moving on a free transfer. He will now miss France’s title defence in Qatar.
Paul Pogba’s problems compound further as the midfielder is now on the verge of missing the World Cup. The Frenchman suffered an injury in pre-season that needed surgery. His agent now confirms the Juventus star will miss the grand event in Qatar as he recovers from surgery.
Pogba’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, confirmed the news regarding the midfielder in a statement. He said, “Following yesterday and today’s medical review in Torino and Pittsburgh, it is extremely painful to inform Paul Pogba will still need recovery time from his surgery.”
“For this reason, Paul will not be able to join Juventus’ squad before the World Cup break nor the French National Team in Qatar.”

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri also confirmed the news. On Friday, he stated it was doubtful that Pogba would play for the club before the Seria A season breaks for the World Cup.
France have already suffered plenty of setbacks ahead of their title defence in Qatar. Didier Deschamps will also be without influential midfielder N’Golo Kante because of a significant hamstring problem. With Pogba being unavailable, the Les Blues boss will be without his starting midfield pair.
Moreover, there are doubts about Raphael Varane’s fitness after the defender limped off with a problem against Chelsea in a recent Premier League fixture. The centre-back was in tears afterwards, but the initial prognosis insisted the issue may not be as severe as first feared.
As for the French midfield, Real Madrid pair Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have a real chance to forge a partnership under Deschamps.
However, the manager will sorely miss Pogba and Kante’s injured duo at the Qatar grand event as France aim to retain the World Cup title.
