Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti would be open to joining Manchester United and believes that he can improve the fortunes of the Red Devils.
According to transfer expert Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast, as relayed by the Express, Manchester United have made contact with Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti over a possible appointment in the summer and have received positive responses.
Manchester United are on the lookout for a new permanent manager to take over the reins from interim boss Ralf Rangnick. The German stepped into the role towards the end of last year after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked. However, he was appointed only temporarily and will move into a consultancy role before next season.
The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new head coach to take charge of the side in the summer, with director John Murtough insisting that a thorough search will be conducted before the club appoints a manager who can guide the team back to glory.
Now, it has emerged Manchester United’s new chief executive Richard Arnold has made contact with one of their managerial targets, Carlo Ancelotti. The Red Devils believe his experience and man-management skills could help them navigate this turbulent period. Furthermore, it is also claimed that the Italian has sent out positive feedback, hinting that he could be open to such a move.

Journalist Castles said: “I’m going to start with a bit of exclusive news, which is about Carlo Ancelotti’s response when he was contacted by Manchester United as part of their search for what they’d like to describe as a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. We can tell you that contact was from the new Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold, it took place over two weeks ago.
“Ancelotti was told they were interested in him because they saw him as an experienced, mature leader who’s a proven winner of trophies. He has, according to someone close to Carlo, had a long-held ambition to manage Manchester United and he believes that he could make a difference in the current circumstances. He’s not unhappy at Real Madrid at present but he’s also not entirely content.”
Ancelotti is a seasoned manager who has tasted success everywhere he has been, barring his last couple of spells at Napoli and Everton. Last summer, he returned to Real Madrid and has turned them into favourites for the La Liga title while already helping them lift the Spanish Super Cup.
But all is not well between him and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who is already looking at replacing the Italian with Mauricio Pochettino, another of Manchester United’s managerial targets. It remains to be seen whether the situation leads to a managerial merry-go-round in the summer, with the Red Devils also keeping an eye out on Ajax’s Erik ten Hag as an option.
