Liverpool are hoping to reach a pre-contract agreement to sign Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho in the summer after seeing a January deadline day move collapse.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool will look to reach a pre-agreement to complete the capture of Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho after failing in their attempt to sign him on the winter transfer deadline day.
The 19-year-old Carvalho is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in the country. Having started at the Benfica academy, he made his way to the Fulham youth setup in 2014 and has progressed rapidly at the London club. The attacking midfielder made his senior debut for the Cottagers under former manager Scott Parker back in 2020.
However, it is under current boss Marco Silva that the youngster has burst out, becoming a key part of the first-team setup at Craven Cottage. Carvalho has featured in 18 matches in the EFL Championship this season, producing an impressive return of seven goals and four assists, which has made clubs across Europe sit up and take notice.
The former England Under-18 international has attracted interest from heavy-hitters like Barcelona and Liverpool. And the latter even made a big attempt to sign Carvalho in the recently-closed January transfer window.
Fabio Carvalho deal has collapsed. Medical done in Liverpool but paperworks were not fully signed before the Deadline. Clubs had full agreement but they knew they where in a ‘race against time’ ??? #LFC

As reported by the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the Merseyside giants had an agreement in place with Fulham to sign Carvalho on the transfer deadline day with an idea to loan him back to the Championship outfit for the rest of the season. Liverpool are believed to have even had the teenage prodigy’s medical completed, but the clubs could not complete the paperwork in time to finalise the transfer before the deadline.
As a result, Carvalho will remain a Fulham player for the rest of the season until his contract expires in June this year. And, according to Paul Joyce, Liverpool could continue negotiations with the 19-year-old and his club to reach a pre-agreement to complete his signing in the summer transfer window later this year.
Given his ability to play in a multitude of positions in the final third, Carvalho would add options in the attacking third at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, while his immense potential would make him an exciting addition at Anfield. While the 19-year-old would essentially arrive on a Bosman move, Liverpool would still need to pay a compensation fee to Fulham.
But this also leaves the door open for other interested parties to try and swoop Carvalho away. So, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool continue to press ahead with their pursuit of the teenage prospect or decide to end their interest in him.
