Transfer News: West Ham United plotting late move for Leandro Trossard

West Ham United are reportedly plotting a late January move for impressive Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard.

According to Football Insider, Premier League side West Ham United are plotting a move for Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard as the January transfer window draws to a close.

The Belgian international joined the Seagulls in 2019 and has since developed into a key player for Graham Potter’s side. The 27-year-old has so far made 91 appearances for Brighton, scoring 14 goals and assisting nine more. It is fair to say that numbers alone fail to do justice to his impact on the field for the club.

Primarily a left-winger, Trossard can play anywhere along the frontline and even as an attacking midfielder. An excellent dribbler with a fearful long shot to boot, the winger would be a wonderful addition in the right system.

West Ham continue to impress and are currently with an outside shot of breaking into the top four. Both Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma have impressed this season, providing good support to Michail Antonio upfront. Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals have been good but a tad inconsistent.

The Hammers struck gold last January when they signed Jesse Lingard on loan. The Englishman blazed a hot trail through opposition defences and helped the club clinch a European spot. Bringing in another impactful player this time around could lead to better results and bigger goals.

Trossard has 18 months left on his deal at Brighton and has already shown himself to be a difference-maker in the English top flight. West Ham have already made contact with the Seagulls and will hope to force their hand in the coming hours. With Yves Bissouma also attracting attention, and Dan Burn reportedly set for a move to Newcastle United, it promises to be a busy January deadline day at the Amex.

As things stand, West Ham face a race against time to land Trossard. The Belgian will add some much-needed depth to the Hammers attack and give them a reliable attacker to call upon. Whether the Londoners can get the deal over the line before the window shuts remains to be seen.
