Transfer News: Tottenham submit enquiry for Sofyan Amrabat

SSC Napoli vs US Lecce: Preview and Prediction as the Serie A leaders look to strengthen their hold on the summit.

Tottenham Hotspur continue to explore options in the January transfer window and have enquired about Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat.

According to The Daily Mail, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as the January transfer window draws to a close.

The 25-year-old has been with Fiorentina since 2020 and enjoyed a promising first season with La Viola. However, he has struggled for game time this season and has been limited to just 12 appearances across all competitions. Currently at the African Cup of Nations with Morroco, he has been a different player for his county and continues to put in commanding performances in the middle of the pitch.

Amrabat started in midfield and shone in Morocco’s last 16 match against Malawi, playing the entire 90 minutes as they won the game 2-1 to progress to the quarter-finals.

The recent losses to Chelsea have brought to the fore the deficiencies in the Tottenham Hotspur squad. The midfield, in particular, needs strengthening if the club is keen on challenging for top honours. Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli have fallen from grace, while Giovani Lo Celso is reportedly a target for Sevilla.

This leaves the Spurs manager with just three options in the middle of the park — Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp. The trio has a rather limited skill set and cannot compete against the best teams in the land.

Amrabat is a decent passer of the ball and can distribute it around the pitch. He is also an accomplished dribbler and can advance the ball up the field with some success. If used right, he could turn into a nifty player at the heart of the Spurs midfield.

While the Moroccan’s numbers are nothing spectacular, he has shown himself to be a solid player who gets the job done with minimal fuss. Conte and Fabio Paratici are well acquainted with Italian football and could see something in Amrabat that no one else has.

With the January transfer window coming to a close, Tottenham now face a race against time to bring in players. Conte has been vocal regarding his request for reinforcements, and it remains to be seen if the club will back him as required.
