Transfer News: Arsenal considering late move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Arsenal are reportedly mulling over a move for Everton front-man Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as a potential alternative for Dusan Vlahovic.

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal have set their sights on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as a potential alternative for Dusan Vlahovic. The Premier League giants are desperately looking for a new striker amid uncertainties over the future of their main forwards. They are keeping a close eye on Everton striker Calvert-Lewin, whose future at Goodison Park remains uncertain.

Arsenal are primarily targeting Vlahovic of Fiorentina. But it is believed that the Serbian international is not too keen on the idea of moving to the Emirates, as he prefers regular Champions League football, while the player is also courted by cash-rich Newcastle United. It has forced Arsenal to look for alternatives, with Calvert-Lewin emerging as an ideal candidate.

One of the rising stars in the Premier League during the 2019/20 campaign, Calvert-Lewin, has had an unfortunate time with injuries this season. He has been out for the majority of the campaign due to a fractured toe and has only mustered six league appearances so far. And with Everton struggling in the midst of a financial and sporting crisis, the striker could soon be on his way out of Goodison Park.

Calvert-Lewin’s precarious situation at Everton has put Arsenal on red alert. It is no secret that the Gunners are in the market for a new striker amid fears over the long-term futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Aubameyang, in particular, has fallen out of favour at the Emirates due to his issues on and off the pitch. The likes of AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are already exploring the possibility of snapping him up from Arsenal, whereas Lacazette remains a target for Inter Milan. The Frenchman’s current contract expires at the end of the season, essentially making him a free agent next summer.

Arsenal are prepared to replace the two by bringing in Calvert-Lewin. With over 150 appearances in the Premier League, the Englishman offers vast experience at the highest level of football while his superior aerial and physical qualities could make him a potential upgrade over both Aubameyang and Lacazette.

However, Arsenal’s pursuit of the Everton striker could hinge on how well they manage to offload their unwanted stars, including Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe. Their departures could help the club free up the funds required to launch a move for the English international, who is set to cost a fortune.
