Newcastle United are reportedly willing to put together a lucrative €25 million offer to Augsburg for Felix Uduokhai in the ongoing transfer window.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle United are prepared to pay around €25 million to sign Augsburg central defender Felix Uduokhai this month as Eddie Howe grows eager to shore up his defensive options.
Newcastle United are ramping up their plans for the ongoing transfer window as Eddie Howe eyes more additions to strengthen key positions in the squad. At least one top central defender remains a priority for the Magpies as they look to escape the fate of relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle have already made several offers to various clubs across England and Europe for their stars. But they are facing problems in convincing clubs to let their players leave midseason. Sven Botman has remained their top target, but Lille have rejected a bid worth €35 million as they want to keep the Dutchman for the rest of the season and help them with their Champions League campaign.
Since then, the Magpies have moved their focus towards other targets, including Sevilla’s Diego Carlos. After seeing a £25 million bid rejected there as well, Newcastle United are prepared to make an improved offer for the Brazilian centre-back in the coming days. They also have set sights on other players in the market, including some high profile names.
Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic is also an option, although the asking price might put Newcastle off their pursuit of the Serbian. The latest name on the shortlist is that of Augsburg star Felix Uduokhai, who has battled injuries all season long.
Having played just played four games this term, the 24-year-old has been battling injury issues and Covid infection. Nonetheless, Howe is reportedly a fan of the German international. The centre-back is considered a talented footballer, who is also one of the most improved players in the Bundesliga in the last 18 months or so.
While Augsburg are languishing in the relegation zone, they are still in with a shout to avoid the drop at the end of the campaign. For a successful run between now and May, they are certainly counting on Uduokhai to help them. However, Newcastle plan to lure the defender away by paying a premium transfer fee.
The Magpies are prepared to pay €25 million for Uduokhai, which is good money considering the centre-back has barely played this season. He is certainly not considered the first choice signing for Newcastle, but someone to improve their backline and help them in their relegation fight.
