Transfer News: Manchester United told to pay £40 million to sign Tariq Lamptey

Manchester United will have to pay around £40 million if they wish to sign Tariq Lamptey in this window, with other Premier League sides also interested.

According to the Daily Mail, Brighton will demand at least £40 million from Manchester United for right-back Tariq Lamptey in this transfer window. The Red Devils are keen on bringing the former Chelsea starlet, as Ralf Rangnick remains keen on a new full-back.

After what has been a difficult season with several ups and downs, Manchester United are looking to salvage their campaign with a few additions in the January window. The Red Devils are keen on strengthening the roster in a few key positions, with Ralf Rangnick thought to be intent on addressing the right-back issue.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been dreadful in the ongoing campaign, while Diogo Dalot is not considered the optimal choice in the position. Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to bring in Kieran Trippier last summer, and there had been links with the Englishman recently as well. But he has signed for Newcastle United recently.

Now the Red Devils are showing an interest in Brighton star Tariq Lamptey. The former Chelsea starlet is certainly not a cheap option, as Brighton are are holding out for a £40 million fee. As per the report, Manchester United consider the price tag to be steep as they value him around £30 million.

With Lamptey’s contract lasting until the summer of 2025, Brighton are not expected to be pressured into a sale by a big club such as Manchester United. They have gained a reputation for holding their ground in situations like these, and a similar stance is expected in this window over their key players.

Lamptey is considered a key signing by those operating in Manchester United’s corridors. Rangnick does not want the club to make mistakes over recruitments and is reportedly adamant over the Brighton star. However, if Brighton stand firm on their valuation, the Mancunian giants might look at cheaper alternatives.

Tottenham and Arsenal are also keen on the right-back as both north London clubs have a role in mind for the attacking full-back. Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a new dimension from the position despite some heavyweight performances from summer recruit Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ boss Antonio Conte is keen on signing a more attack-minded right wing-back than those available at his disposal currently, especially with Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga’s futures far from secure. However, Lamptey’s price tag may force them into considering other options such as Wolves’ Adama Traore, who could be available for a much lesser fee.

As for Manchester United, they will need to decide fast on their preferred right-back target, whether it’s Lamptey or someone else, and act fast in the transfer window.
