Serie A club Udinese are reportedly prepared to make a loan offer for out-of-favour Arsenal defender Pablo Mari in the ongoing transfer window.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Pablo Mari could be among several players to leave Arsenal in the January transfer, with Serie A club Udinese keen on signing the Spanish defender.
Pablo Mari’s Arsenal career has dovetailed since the earlier parts of the season. The centre-back was chosen in the initial few games by Mikel Arteta due to other players’ absences, but the defender has never been able to contribute since.
Arteta lost faith in the towering centre-back, and the Arsenal manager has continued to ignore him even for many cup ties this term. Mari was among the substitutes when Arsenal lost to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup at the weekend, which was indicative of his fallen stock within the squad.
Arsenal are reportedly content with Ben White, Rob Holding and Gabriel Magalhaes as their primary centre-backs for the rest of the season. Mari has thus reached the end of the road at the Emiratea, with the out-of-favour defender among the existing squad players expected to depart this month.

Recent reports had pointed towards a possible return to Brazil for the Spaniard, although it is now believed that Mari would like to stay put in Europe. The 28-year-old believes he can play at the highest level and is not too keen on returning to Brazil.
Arsenal are open to receiving offers for the Spanish defender, with Valencia reportedly one of the clubs interested in him. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there is significant interest from Serie A club Udinese, who are keen on signing the centre-back on loan this month.
The Serie A outfit is preparing to make a dry loan offer. Mari has a long-term contract with the Gunners lasting until 202. So if he performs well during a temporary stint with Udinese, Arsenal could manage to offload him permanently in the summer with his value intact.
Romano also spoke about Sead Kolasinac, another player expected to leave Arsenal. There is talk of a move to French club Marseille.
As for Mari, joining Udinese could be a good move to play regularly after being frozen out at Arsenal. He could find his form with regular game-time and probably make a more substantial move the following summer. For now, the Gunners will be happy to get his wages off their books and help Arteta trim his squad further for new arrivals.
