Arsenal are reportedly interested in a move for Ivan Perisic either in the ongoing window or on a free transfer next summer.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Arsenal are interested in a move for Ivan Perisic with the Inter Milan star running down his contract at the San Siro.
Arsenal had a wonderful summer transfer window wherein, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu Gaspar, the club made several young signings. All the six players that were brought in, have been integrated properly, with four becoming bonafide members of their starting lineup. Only Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have been bit-part players, although they have a long future at the Emirates given their young age.
The age group of those new signings signalled a massive change in Arsenal’s transfer policy. Earlier in Arteta’s reign and prior to that, during Unai Emery’s time, Arsenal signed experienced, ageing stars to add more balance to the squad. However, Arteta has embarked on a massive squad rebuild, giving the team a young and vibrant look.
Now, though, reports are pointing towards a possible move for Inter Milan veteran Ivan Perisic as a potential transfer target. The Croatian, 32, has been a key part of Simone Inzaghi’s team this term, and with his contract running out at the end of the season, there are many clubs lining up to sign him.
Arsenal have been recently linked with many players from Serie A, including a wide attacker. Juventus’ Dejan Kulusevski has been touted as a transfer target, although there has been no progress made on that front as of yet. And with competition for his signing growing by the day, the Gunners might be forced to look at alternatives, with Perisic potentially emerging as one.
However, the Croatian is also being linked with the Gunners’ arch-rivals Tottenham, as former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte reportedly wants to reunite with his previous charge.
Despite the claims of Arsenal’s interest, a move is unlikely to materialise. While Perisic’s experience and versatility can come in handy, the Gunners have switched their transfer policy after getting burned by the signing of Willian last season. Bringing in Perisic could very well end up going down the same way as the 32-year-old would command high wages and would only be a short-term addition.
