Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in re-signing Christopher Nkunku but will face competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid.

According to a report from Fichajes, PSG are set to battle it out with Manchester United and Real Madrid for the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku in the summer transfer window.

Nkunku came through the youth ranks at PSG and made close to 80 first-team appearances for the French giants. However, a lack of regular starting opportunities meant that he decided to join RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019, and the move has worked a treat for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder.

In 109 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, Nkunku has produced a return of 27 goals and 37 assists so far. The Frenchman has been in particularly explosive form in the ongoing campaign, having already plundered 15 goals and ten assists from just 25 matches in all competitions. His exploits with Leipzig have put him on the radars of some of the biggest clubs in the continent.

Real Madrid have taken an interest in securing Nkunku’s services as they look to prepare for life after Luka Modric. The Croatian international is in the final phase of his career, while his contract expires at the end of the season as well.

Isco and Dani Ceballos are also on their way out, and there are question marks on Marco Asensio’s future. So, a move for someone like Nkunku, who can play in multiple positions in attack and midfield and has his best years well in front of him, would make a lot of sense from Los Blancos’ perspective.

As for Manchester United, their interest in the former France Under-21 international seems to be driven by interim manager Ralf Rangnick. It was the German tactician who signed Nkunku at RB Leipzig and, having seen the player from close quarters, wants to add him to his roster at Old Trafford.

Considering that the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata are set to depart at the end of the season andPaul Pogba’s future continues to remain uncertain, a move for a player of Nkunku’s abilities would benefit the 20-time English champions. However, Manchester United and Real Madrid will now face competition from PSG to sign the 24-year-old.

With Les Parisiens looking to move on some of their ageing midfielders in the summer, there will be space for new blood in the squad ahead of the next season. And, having let go of Nkunku over two years ago, they are now looking to correct the mistake of the past by bringing him back and providing him with the platform to succeed at Parc des Princes.

Nkunku still has over two years left on his contract with RB Leipzig. But the lure of joining an elite club in the summer could prove to be too tempting to turn down for the Frenchman. With the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea also believed to be interested, it will certainly be interesting to see where the 24-year-old ends up.
