Manchester United have rebuffed Sevilla in their attempts to sign Anthony Martial on a loan deal in Janaury.
According to an exclusive report from Goal, Sevilla have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Anthony Martial. It appears their loan offer for the attacker has been rejected by Manchester United, who are yet to make a decision on the player’s future.
The Premier League giants are not averse to offloading Martial in the January transfer window. But they are expecting the potential suitors to cover all of the player’s wages and provide a loan fee. Sevilla’s offer, to that end, was underwhelming as the Spanish giants were only willing to cover half of his salary. It has forced Manchester United to reject the proposal, which could serve as a massive blow for Martial.
It is believed that the Frenchman is keen on leaving Old Trafford in January after falling out of favour at Manchester United this season. The forward has only mustered two starts in the Premier League this season, falling behind Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and the mercurial Cristiano Ronaldo in the pecking order.
It has left Martial understandably frustrated, thus drawing attention from several clubs across Europe. While Juventus and his former club AS Monaco have been some of the teams to have registered an interest in the forward, it appears Sevilla may have been the player’s desired destination.
Reports suggested that the 26-year-old had even reached a personal agreement with Los Nervionenses regarding a potential loan move in January. But it seems Julen Lopetegui and Monchi may have to come up with a better offer if they are to secure the services of the former Monaco starlet next month.
The Spanish giants have no shortage of alternatives, though, having been linked with a move for several other top attackers in Europe over the past few months. Real Madrid loanee Reinier Jesus, for one, has emerged as a potential target for Lopetegui, with the Brazilian expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in January.
However, Sevilla could certainly prioritise the deal to sign Martial, given the attacker’s experience and pedigree at the highest level of football. So it will be interesting to see if the Andalusian outfit renegotiate their loan offer with Manchester United and succeed in their pursuit of the French international.
