Tottenham Hotspur remain determined to sign Bologna starlet Mattias Svanberg in the Janaury transfer window.

According to Corriere di Bologna, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are seeking the services of Mattias Svanberg. The Bologna midfielder is highly rated by both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici, as they had watched his development closely during their time in Italy. And it appears the youngster has now become one of Spurs’ priority targets in the January transfer window.

The North London giants have already made enquiries regarding the availability of the young midfielder, who has enjoyed immense success at Bologna since joining the club in 2018.

A central midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old has over 100 competitive appearances for his team in just three and a half years. It is quite an accomplishment for a player of his age. But it is also hardly surprising, as the Swede has truly made an impression with his work ethic, versatility and aggression.

Svanberg’s skill in midfield, combined with his seamless potential, has made him an appealing target for a Tottenham side that is desperately looking for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Especially in the midfield department, the club is expected to run an overhaul, with Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele linked with a move away from North London. The former was reportedly a target for Newcastle United earlier in the season after falling behind Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojberjg in the pecking order.

Dele Alli, too, is expected to depart Spurs amid interest from the same Newcastle United team. Hence, Tottenham’s pursuit of Mattias Svanberg is hardly surprising as Conte looks to add competition for the likes of Skipp and Hojbjerg. More importantly, the Italian is looking for more variety in midfield, as the current options often appear way too defensive.

However, the report suggests that Tottenham are likely to face disappointment in their pursuit of Svanberg. It appears Bologna have no intention of selling their young midfield asset in January. In fact, they are keen on extending the youngster’s current deal at the club that expires in 2023.

Not to mention, Svanberg is also a target for Manchester City, so the Lilywhites may have to look elsewhere in their quest to sign a new midfielder in Janaury.
