Real Madrid are reportedly considering signing Corentin Tolisso on a free transfer in the summer, with manager Carlo Ancelotti keen on a reunion.
According to a report from El Chiringuito TV, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is seeking a summer reunion with French midfielder Corentin Tolisso, who is out of contract with Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
A product of the Olympique Lyon youth academy, Tolisso has been with Bayern Munich since 2017. While the 27-year-old has shown glimpses of immense quality in Bavaria, the midfielder has been held back a fair bit by injury problems. Currently in his fifth full season with the German champions, and he has made only 109 appearances, contributing with 19 goals and 15 assists.
Tolisso has fallen behind the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer in the pecking order of things at the Allianz Arena and has started just four Bundesliga matches this season. With the Frenchman’s contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems like Bayern will not be handing him an extension.
And, Real Madrid are waiting to pounce on the opportunity at the insistence of manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian tactician worked with the 27-year-old midfielder during his time as manager of Bayern Munich. And it is now being claimed that a reunion could be on the cards at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid will be entering the market for new midfielders in the summer with Luka Modric very much in the final phase of his career, while Toni Kroos has also turned 32 and will need his game-time managed going forward. Furthermore, there are speculations surrounding the future of Federico Valverde, who is believed to be frustrated with the lack of opportunities coming his way and is looking for an exit.
Such a situation would demand Real Madrid to sign at least a couple of new central midfielders in the summer. While they have their sights set on a move for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans, Tolisso has also emerged as a transfer target for the Spanish capital club.
A seasoned campaigner with experience of winning the biggest titles, Tolisso is a quality operator who has just been unlucky with injuries. But should he stay fit for an extended period and get a run of games, the 27-year-old can be an asset for any team he plays. And the fact that he would be coming in on a free transfer means that there is less financial risk.
So, a move to Real Madrid in the summer could make sense for both the player and the club. Although, there will be competition for his services, as Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be interested.
