Lyon are reportedly among the clubs interested in securing a loan deal for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.
According to RMC Sport, Anthony Martial is prepared to leave Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window. The attacker has gotten frustrated over his lack of game-time at Old Trafford, with his agent confirming that he is set to hold talks with the club regarding a potential loan move away from United next month.
One of the clubs in contention to sign Martial in January is Lyon. The French outfit is keen on bolstering their attacking options next month after a disastrous start to the campaign that has left them in a mid-table spot after 16 matches.
After losing Memphis Depay in the summer, Les Gones have lacked the spark upfront, often appearing overly reliant on the services of Moussa Dembele and Lucas Paqueta. As a result, they are now eyeing a move for Martial, who has considerable experience in Ligue 1, having featured in 70 competitive matches for AS Monaco prior to his move to Manchester United.
The Frenchman shares a history with Lyon, too, as he had begun his youth career in the renowned OL academy way back in 2007. He had played for the academy for six years, even making four competitive appearances for the club, before eventually joining Monaco in the summer of 2013.
It appears a return to Lyon could be a possibility for Martial, who has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United this season. The forward has earned only two starts in the Premier League so far, which is simply not acceptable for a player of his calibre.
A loan move to Lyon until the end of the season, therefore, could be a logical move for the French international as he looks to get his career back on track. But it is fair to point out that the Ligue 1 giants are not the desired option for the player, who is favouring a move to a bigger club.
Fortunately for the Manchester United star, he has no shortage of alternatives. In fact, the 26-year-old has already become the subject of interest for various clubs across England, including Arsenal and Newcastle United, so it might only be a matter of time before any of the suitors come forward with a lucrative loan offer for Martial next month.
