Inter Milan are linked with a surprise move for Raphael Varane, who only joined Manchester United in the summer.
According to El Nacional, Inter Milan are reportedly interested in a move for Raphael Varane next summer, despite the French international only signing for Manchester United in August.
The mood at Old Trafford was at its highest this season when Raphael Varane was unveiled in front of a packed stadium before the team thrashed Leeds United. The atmosphere has since dampened with injury to the French international and a disastrous collective form of those donning the red shirt.
Varane’s signing was designed to make Manchester United title challengers this term he was expected to form a solid partnership with Harry Maguire in central defence. However, the England international dreadful form and the Frenchman’s lack of adaptation has made matters complicated.
But, there are plenty of expectations attached with Varane when he eventually returns from his spell on the sidelines. He was signed on a hefty fee from Real Madrid, as Manchester United lured him to England on the promise of huge wages.
There are concerns around media circles suggesting Varane might be unhappy at the club and could take up another offer if a quality team targets him. In reality, he hasn’t adapted as well in Manchester and has concerns over fitness issues due to the intensity and speed of English football.
Inter Milan are one team that reportedly have eyes for the Frenchman. The report in the Spanish outlet suggests the Nerrazurri are prepared to make a sizeable offer next summer to sign him from Manchester United.
Next summer, on the playing squad at Inter, there will be a vacancy when one of Milan Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij might depart. The Dutchman is more susceptible owing to the tremendous interest from Newcastle, Tottenham and the likes, who want to take advantage of his contract in Italy that expires in 2023.
The Varane links might be a direct consequence of that possible departure. At 28, the Frenchman surely can provide a relatively long-term option at any club, although the expectation is that he will thrive at Manchester United when he finds his rhythm.
Moreover, Inter are not in a sound financial climate as things stand. The Italian champions had to sell star forward Romelu Lukaku and right-back Achraf Hakimi to balance the books. Additionally, it’s unprecedented to think they will afford Varane’s huge wages and be able to convince him to switch sides just after a year in England.
