Transfer News: Manchester United step up interest in Aurelien Tchouameni

Chelsea step up interest in £40 million-rated Liverpool target

Manchester United are stepping up their interest in AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni and are keen for him to replace superstar Paul Pogba who looks to be on his way out.

According to Football Insider, Premier League giants Manchester United are keeping a keen eye on the progress shown by AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni.

The French international is among the best young midfielders in the game and continues to make a name for himself in Ligue 1. He is a regular for Monaco and recently stepped in for N’Golo Kante in the UEFA Nations League final for France. His performances have not gone unnoticed and Tchouameni appears to have struck a chord with those in charge at Old Trafford.

Manchester United could very well be in the market for a midfielder should Paul Pogba decide to leave the club next summer. The Red Devils’ scouts were in attendance for Monaco’s clash against PSV Eindhoven two weeks ago. He appears to have made an impression for them to return for the reverse fixture tomorrow night.

Manchester United, for their part, are ready to make their move once they receive a positive appraisal from their scouts. If Tchouameni continues to perform as he has had so far, it is a foregone conclusion. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in need of a new midfielder going into the January transfer window. While Pogba’s future is certainly an issue, the club also needs an upgrade on Scott McTominay and Fred.

The lack of quality in the Red Devils’ midfield was visible for all to see in the past few weeks. They had no answer to Liverpool last month and the familiar head reared itself once against Atalanta on Tuesday night. If this keeps going, Manchester United could find themselves on the ropes every time they face a half-decent side.

The signing of a player like Tchouameni, thus, becomes crucial for the 20-time English champions. Not only is the 21-year-old an excellent tackler, but also an adept passer with aerial prowess to boot. A dynamic player, he could be a massive addition to the United midfield that lacks the right personalities and traits.

Manchester United, for their part, have a number of world-class stars in their squad. However, they appear to lack cohesion and are more of a set of individuals on the field. While Tchouameni coming in may look great on paper, it will count for little if they cannot utilize him right.

After all, even the best tools only matter so much if the artisan yielding them lacks the skill.
