Raphael Varane is set to start while fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial is also back in contention for Manchester United when they face Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United will be raring to bounce back to winning ways in the Premier League when they lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur away from home on Saturday evening. Heading into the pivotal contest, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has greeted positive updates on the team news front.
Summer signing Raphael Varane is back to full fitness after missing the last few games with an injury. In addition, his compatriot, Anthony Martial, has also recovered from his fitness woes to put himself in contention for the contest. However, Manchester United will be without midfield mainstay Paul Pogba, who is suspended after his sending off against Liverpool.
“Of course Paul is suspended but, apart from that, it’s a fully fit squad,” Solskjaer told reporters during his pre-match press conference. “Which is a very strange position to be in, to have 25 outfield players and five keepers training. Thirty men training this week, all fit,” he added.
The Manchester United manager is unlikely to make many changes despite his team being hammered against Liverpool last time out. David de Gea is a certain starter between the sticks ahead of Dean Henderson for the Red Devils. The fit-again Varane should return to the lineup on Saturday, at the expense of Victor Lindelof, to partner Harry Maguire in defence.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are expected to hold on to their spots in the starting XI as the two full-backs. Scott McTominay and Fred are likely to be preferred in the midfield double-pivot by Solskjaer even though Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic are available at his disposal.
Bruno Fernandes is a guaranteed starter in the No. 10 role for the 20-time English champions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As for the remaining three attacking slots, the returning Martial will be hoping to get a look-in, as will Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and new signing Jadon Sancho, who has been starved of regular minutes.
However, the Manchester United manager is likely to stick to his guns and go with Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford out in the wide areas against Tottenham while Cristiano Ronaldo should continue to lead the line as the lone centre-forward.
Predicted Manchester United XI: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford, Ronaldo
