Transfer News: Manchester United battle Arsenal, Newcastle United for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Manchester United are reportedly ready to rival Arsenal and Newcastle United in pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United are among the clubs exploring the possibility of signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Everton forward has become a hot property in the English market and is facing an uncertain future at the club amid interest from some of the biggest clubs in England.

Calvert-Lewin’s current contract at Goodison Park expires in 2025, but the player is expected to leave the club next summer. Manchester United, for one, are keen on securing the services of the talented forward, who is also being courted by direct league rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United while Real Madrid have registered their interest as well.

A product of the Sheffield United youth academy, Calvert-Lewin has been around the blocks for quite a while now, having made his debut way back in the 2016/17 campaign. But his big breakthrough came last season, when the forward fired in 16 league goals, effectively becoming one of the most in-demand forwards in England.

The 24-year-old’s goalscoring tally for Everton has exponentially increased as well, which is indicative of the improvements he has made in his game in recent years. Unsurprisingly, the forward has drawn interest from top clubs in the process, with Arsenal reportedly courting him as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, who is interestingly a target for Everton.

Newcastle United, too, want the Englishman to spearhead their new-look attack next season, as the Magpies brace themselves for a massive squad overhaul under the leadership of their owners and a new manager.

Manchester United, meanwhile, want to sign an attacking partner for Cristiano Ronaldo as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to further strengthen his goalscoring options. Calvert-Lewin fits the bill well due to his goalscoring prowess coupled with the physicality and aerial superiority he offers in the final third, making him an ideal long-term replacement for Ronaldo.

As for the player himself, it remains to be seen whether he prefers to move on from Everton just yet. He has, after all, had to endure a difficult few months due to injury. He did start the season with three goals in three matches but hasn’t featured since early September, so one would imagine that the English forward would want to focus on fitness at the moment, rather than his future.
