Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Juventus and France midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who could be allowed to leave by the Italian giants.
According to a report from Italian publication Calciomercato, Newcastle United are eyeing a potential swoop for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the upcoming January transfer window.
Rabiot has been with Juventus since the summer of 2019, having arrived on a free transfer from boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain when his contract ran out. However, in his two years in Turin, the 26-year-old has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular. When he has played, he has hardly been convincing either.
Rabiot, to date, has made 91 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring six goals and setting up five more. While he has started five of Juventus’ seven Serie A matches this season, the report claims that the Serie A giants are willing to part ways with him in order to make room for some new faces, including Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also a target for Chelsea.
There had been talks of interest from Real Madrid, but as per latest reports, Los Blancos are not looking to sign him. This could pave the way for Newcastle United to make a swoop for the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder as early as the January transfer window.
Newcastle United’s new takeover has meant that they have the resources to go after the biggest names in the game. And, the rumour mill has been going crazy over the past few days, linking the Magpies with one high-profile player after another. And, Rabiot is the latest addition to the list of supposed transfer targets.
A move for the France international would make sense for Newcastle United considering as he would elevate the quality of the midfield department currently at St. James’ Park. Indeed, the 26-year-old would be a major upgrade on the likes of Sean Longstaff, Jeff Hendrick while adding a wealth of top-level experience and winning mentality.
Rabiot’s contract with Juventus runs till the summer of 2023. The Bianconeri would be open to cashing in on him in January or in the summer for a decent transfer fee. Newcastle’s deep pockets mean they can afford to pay or even improve his current €7 million per year salary. What now remains to be seen is whether Rabiot is willing to trade down from Juventus to Newcastle and join the new project.
