Everton are interested in French star Marcus Thuram as Rafael Benitez is keen to add attackers in the January window.
According to Calciomercato, Everton have joined the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach winger Marcus Thuram in January. Manager Rafael Benitez is keen on recruiting more attackers in the next window to bolster his squad for the second half of the season.
In the summer, Everton made some bargain signings while spending just a paltry sum of over £2 million on Demarai Gray. They signed Andros Townsend on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, and the experienced winger has proved to be a shrewd signing so far.
Manager Rafael Benitez recently has weathered an injury problem to his attackers, with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing some important games. The Spanish boss wants to rectify the situation by bringing another attacker in the January window, with Marcus Thuram a reported target.
Thuram plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany and could be open to offers from clubs. Since signing from Guingamp in France, the winger has become a key part of the Bundesliga side, featuring heavily in his two seasons. This term, he has been restricted to just two appearances owing to a knee injury.
Thuram also boasts a fairly good record in terms of goals and assists. Last season he scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions for Monchengladbach and is set to become a key part this season once he returns from his injury later this month.
A move to the Premier League could have been on the cards in the summer, as Tottenham showed keen interest. A move to north London never transpired, but Thuram could ponder a move to the Premier League with the Everton interest.
There’s also interest from Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, although Everton might pip them for the French international. He could become a key signing for Benitez, specifically looking at players to play on the left-side of attack, with Porto’s Luis Diaz also on the list of potential targets.
Thuram has a contract until 2023 at the Bundesliga side, and they could ponder cashing in if a sizeable offer arrives in January. Monchengladbach paid just over £8 million for the 24-year-old winger back in the summer of 2019 and will certainly look to make a decent profit from his sale.
