Transfer News: Arsenal reignite Tariq Lamptey interest

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal are prepared to re-enter the market for Brighton & Hove Albion starlet Tariq Lamptey as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his options.

According to a recent report from Fichajes, Arsenal are poised to raid Brighton & Hove Albion once again next summer, this time for the signature of Tariq Lamptey.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of three players to be considered as a potential target, as Arsenal look to bolster its option in the right-back department. It appears head coach Mikel Arteta is intent on adding a more attack-minded full-back in his ranks, with one who can compete with new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu.

As a result, the Gunners have set their sights on Lamptey. The club had already done business with the Seagulls earlier in the summer, bringing in Ben White for a hefty fee.

After a rocky start to the season, the Englishman is doing well at the Emirates, becoming a mainstay at the back alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Arsenal are now hoping to replicate a similar level of success by bringing in another Brighton defender.

This is not the first time Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lamptey, with the right-back being previously subjected to a move to the Emirates at the start of the year.

Formerly a member of the Chelsea youth academy, Lamptey has emerged as an appealing target for many clubs due to his technical ability and flair going forward. He is blessed with serious pace while his tendency to move up the pitch at every opportunity might make him an ideal alternative for Tomiyasu, who is a more defence-oriented right-back.

With just 20 competitive appearances for Brighton, the 21-year-old may not have too much experience at the highest level of football. But he does offer a lot of promise and the potential to become one of the best wing-backs in the Premier League.

Arsenal themselves have enjoyed a lot of success in nurturing young talents in recent years, thus making the Emirates an ideal destination for Lamptey, should he look to take the next step in his career next season.

The Brighton starlet is not the only option at right-back for Arsenal, though, with the Gunners also in the market for Leicester City’s rising talent James Justin while Max Aarons could be another candidate.
