Timo Werner has reportedly emerged as a shock target for Newcastle United as the Magpies look to splash the newfound cash next summer.

According to a report from Fichajes, Newcastle Untied have compiled a list of centre-forwards they could target next summer, as the club looks to spend big bucks in the market after being taken over by the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium, essentially making them one of the richest clubs in the world.

Chelsea forward Timo Werner has been included in the long list of strikers who could end up at St. James’ Park next season, as the club looks to add some much-needed firepower in the offensive department that has struggled with a lack of goals under Steve Bruce.

Newcastle believe Werner could be the potential solution to their problem, even though German the attacker has emerged as a much-maligned figure at Stamford Bridge due to his struggles in front of goals. After coming from RB Leipzig on a big-money move last season, Werner only scored six goals in his debut campaign in Premier League with Chelsea .

This time around, he has scored only one, missing numerous goalscoring opportunities in the process, for both club and country. However, that has not deterred Borussia Dortmund from reportedly eyeing the Chelsea forward as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland.

Newcastle United share the same attitude towards Werner, as they desperately look to find an upgrade over Joelinton. The two players share a similar style of play, often acting as the supporting forward rather than the main target man while boasting the ability to run into spaces.

As for Chelsea, they are unlikely to be fazed by the departure of Werner, who has never really managed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge. The former Leipzig star has now even fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, so the German’s exit could, in fact, be good for the club.

Werner, though, is not the only option for Newcastle United. The Magpies are also in the market for another struggling forward in Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, who is tipped to leave Old Trafford in the upcoming January transfer window.
