Leicester City are reportedly keen on making Real Madrid outcast Isco a midfield reinforcement in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Isco is the subject of interest from yet another Premier League bigwig heading into the January transfer window. Leicester City have joined the race to sign the Real Madrid outcast this coming winter.

Isco joined Real Madrid from Malaga in the summer of 2013, having created quite a lot of hype around his burgeoning talent. However, over the last eight years, the Spanish midfielder has failed to establish himself as a first-choice option for any of the managers he has played under, only managing brief spells wherein he was unstoppable.

In the last few years, the 29-year-old has become a bit-part player for the Merengues, only making an appearance when multiple first-choice midfielders have been sidelined. The same has been the case so far in 2021/22, with Isco only managing 166 minutes of game-time for Real Madrid. But despite the drop in his stature, he remains a popular figure in the transfer market, with Leicester City his latest suitors.

The interest from Leicester City is interesting, considering they bolstered their midfield in the summer transfer window by signing Boubakary Soumare. And amid the presence of Wilfred Ndidi and Youri Tielemans, it is hard to see where the Real Madrid outcast would fit in the scheme of things.

Isco could be an option to reprise the no. 10 role, but with James Maddison firmly the first-choice for the position, the 29-year-old might not really see his fortunes improving at the King Power Stadium. Leicester, though, are not the only Premier League club to have been linked with Isco, who has also been courted by Everton.

There have been shock links with Barcelona as well while several other clubs appear to be hot on his trails. As for the interest from Leicester, they intend to make their move in the January transfer window, which could work well for Real Madrid, who are attempting to lighten their squad while beefing up their transfer budget in preparation for a big summer transfer window.

With that in mind, it remains to be seen if the former Premier League champions do end up going big for the Real Madrid outcast this coming winter. What does appear to be certain is that Isco’s days with Los Blancos are numbered.
