Transfer News: Liverpool in pole position to sign Karim Adeyemi

Liverpool are plotting a move for RB Salzburg wonderkid Karim Adeyemi who continues to go from strength to strength in Austria

Liverpool are leading the race to land RB Salzburg ace Karim Adeyemi who continues to go from strength to strength in the Austrian Bundesliga.

According to El Nacional, Premier League giants Liverpool are in pole position to sign 19-year-old German prodigy Karim Adeyemi, who is impressing at RB Salzburg.

With 11 goals and two assists in 16 games this season, the German ace is catching the eye of some of Europe’s biggest names. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are all keeping tabs on Adeyemi’s progress.

The teenager joined Salzburg from unheralded ScVgg Unterhacning in 2018 and has made the most of his opportunity in Austria. He could be on the move as early as January, and Liverpool remains a real option. The Reds have been negotiation with Salzburg for Adeyemi for some time now. It does not come as a surprise given the Merseysiders’ ability to get deals over the line with minimal pomp and noise.

Jurgen Klopp requires a pacy, young attacker who can become a key part of the Reds squad for years to come. In Adeyemi, he can bring in just that. The German would be an excellent addition to Klopp’s side, capable of playing anywhere along the front line.

Salzburg, for their part, appear to be open to letting the German star leave. However, with his current contract at the club running until 2024, they hold a strong hand when it comes to negotiations. Adeyemi is valued at €20 million by the Austrians, but it will take at least double that to land the player in the coming windows.

While Liverpool could baulk at the asking price, there is little doubt that they could be getting themselves a potentially genuine world-beater. Klopp and his coaching staff at Liverpool have managed to mould unpolished gems into sparkling diamonds. However, the Reds squad is not getting any younger, and the need to bring in a young core is of utmost importance.

The transfers of Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas, Harvey Elliott and Ibrahima Konate all hint that such a change is taking place behind the scenes at Anfield. With Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino dropping off, another attacker is key. Adeyemi could very well become one of the Reds’ new-look frontline faces in the years to come.

Liverpool’s gain could be Barcelona’s loss. The Catalans had an agreement for Adeyemi to join them in 2019, only for then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu to pull the plug. Whether the 19-year-old ends up making a move to Anfield in the near future remains to be seen.
