Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing 29-year-old Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope as the Hugo Lloris era draws to a close in North London.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Burnley star Nick Pope.

The 29-year-old English international is among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and has carved a real good niche for himself in the English top-flight. He has been with the Clarets since 2016 and is among the best players at Turf Moor.

Pope will enter the last year of his contract with Burnley next summer and could have several clubs queuing in for his services. This augurs well for Tottenham, who are in search of a replacement for Hugo Lloris.

The French veteran is one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history and one of the finest ever to don the Tottenham jersey. However, at the age of 34, age is catching up with him, and could well be set to become a free agent next summer.

Daniel Levy signed Pierluigi Gollini on loan from Atalanta but the Italian goalkeeper is yet to make a single appearance for Tottenham in the Premier League. The 26-year-old is yet to make much of an impact to show he is the right man to replace Lloris.

Pope is, however, a proven shot-stopper in the Premier League and, despite being 29, would prove to be a solid choice in goal for the foreseeable future. The move to Tottenham could allow him to take his talents to a bigger stage.

Both Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale have overtaken Pope in the pecking order in the English national setup. For all their resilience, Burnley have an upper limit and cannot provide Pope with the platform he needs to succeed. Spurs may not be the top side in the land but can give the shot-stopper a wider stage to perform.

The Clarets are aware that the poor start to this season could prompt some of their big names seek a move elsewhere. They are readying a new deal for the 29-year-old goalkeeper, and it remains to be seen if he will accept it. A two time Burnley Player of the Year, Pope also earned himself a place in the PFA Team of the Year in 2020. There is little debate that he is one of the club’s best assets.

Tottenham are currently in a limbo and need to build a team that can challenge for years to come. The North Londoners will do well to strengthen from the back, and having a dependable goalkeeper could be the anchor they need to start their rebuild.

We need a quality partner to play alongside Romero, Levy always does things by half measure when it comes to the quality of the squad. We need a top class keeper, another left footed quality centre back, a right back of quality, whoever scouted Emerson should be sacked, he’s no better than Aurier. We also need an attacking midfielder than can play the number ten role who has that killer pass, we haven’t had one since Eriksen left, and finally we need another quality striker to play with or back up Kane, not a replacement, we’ve been crying out for that quality second striker for years but Levy has left us short here ever season, no wonder we’ve won nothing for 13 years. It’s time Levy made quality signings or he and Lewis can get out of our club, if anyone else in this club was as unsuccessful as he’s been he would have sacked them years ago.
