Transfer News: Liverpool rekindle pursuit of Ismaila Sarr

Liverpool are reportedly in the market for Ismaila Sarr as they anticipate the departure of one of their star players next summer.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Ismaila Sarr. The Watford winger has been identified as a potential replacement for one of the club’s star trio in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool are anticipating the sale of at least one of the aforementioned attackers, with Salah, in particular, facing an uncertain future at the club. The Egyptian international’s current contract at Anfield expires in 2023, and the club has failed to tie him down to a new deal so far.

Former defender Jamie Carragher has already urged the Reds to renew the contract of Salah. But nothing has come to fruition, with Liverpool instead eyeing a move for Sarr.

A member of the Watford team since 2019, the 23-year-old winger has had immense success with the Hornets. Sarr had initially made a solid impression in the Premier League during his debut campaign, being involved in 11 goals, even though it was not enough to save Watford from relegation.

Sarr stepped up a gear in the Championship, scoring 13 goals and providing ten assists. It was pivotal in helping the club earn promotion back to top-flight. And it appears the Senegalese attacker has managed to replicate his Championship form in the Premier League, netting four goals in the first seven matches this season.

The 23-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Liverpool now prepared to sign him to further strengthen their ranks in the offensive department. Sarr’s experience in the Premier League combined with his pace, trickery and direct style of play should tune in well with Jurgen Klopp’s tactical philosophy.

However, the Senegalese international is expected to cost a fortune, with his current contract at Watford expiring in 2024. It might force Liverpool to look elsewhere, knowing the club is facing financial restraints due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fortunately, they have no shortage of alternatives. Red Bull Salzburg’s rising star in Karim Adeyemi, for one, is a potential option next summer, with the German likely to cost much lower than Sarr. Recent reports even suggest that he could cost as low as €35 million, which could potentially make him a bargain for Liverpool.
