AS Roma and Inter Milan are prepared to battle it out for the services of Harry Winks, who is set for a Tottenham exit in January.

According to Calciomercato, Harry Winks is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in January. The midfielder is currently on the lookout for a new club as he seeks to take the next step in his career after a few difficult years in North London.

Winks’ current situation at Spurs has already put a lot of clubs on red alert, including Serie A giants AS Roma and Inter Milan. Both the Italian clubs are open to signing the Englishman, who is yet to fulfil his potential after a promising start to his professional career under Mauricio Pochettino.

In many ways, Winks has been a disappointment at Tottenham in recent years. The midfielder has repeatedly failed to offer anything new to the table for the club, often establishing himself as a passive midfielder with limited ability in possession, passing and defensive work rate.

The lack of improvement in his game has seen the Englishman lose his importance in the first team. His place in the side was already taken by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last season and in the new campaign, the 25-year-old has fallen behind the Dane, as well as the young Oliver Skipp and even Dele Alli in the pecking order, starting only once in the Premier League so far.

However, AS Roma are prepared to offer him a lifeline by snapping him up in January. Since Jose Mourinho took over, the Giallorossi are exploring the English market more and more, notably bagging a bargain in the form of Tammy Abraham from Chelsea this summer.

Not to mention, Mourinho had also expressed interest in signing Winks’ teammate Tanguy Ndombele. But as for Winks, his side could face stiff competition from reigning Italian champions Inter Milan, who have also signed multiple Premier League stars in recent years.

The Nerazzurri are keen on adding more quality in midfield, especially with Arturo Vidal nearing the final phase of his career while Marcelo Brozovic has been incidentally linked with a move to Tottenham as well as Manchester United.

For Tottenham’s part, Harry Winks’ sale may allow them to fund a move for the Croatian international as well as several other targets, as new coach Nuno Espirito Santo looks to perfect his team in January, after a topsy-turvy start to the campaign.
