Transfer News: Inter Milan retain interest in Marcos Alonso

Inter Milan remain interested in acquiring the services of Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso, whose contract expires in 2023.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Inter Milan are still in the market for Marcos Alonso. The reigning Serie A champions are currently looking for a new option at left wing-back, with the Chelsea defender emerging as an ideal option due to his contract situation at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso’s current deal at Chelsea expires in 2023, which has put Inter Milan on red alert. The club’s leading figures in Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are already preparing an assault for the former Fiorentina full-back, who has been linked with a return to Italy in the past.

It appears the Nerazzurri are keen on reinforcements in the left wing-back position after losing out on Ashley Young in the summer. Although most of their new signings have clicked, the returning Federico Dimarco hasn’t shown enough to quality out wide while Aleksandar Kolarov is already in the final third phase of his career.

It makes Marcos Alonso an appealing target for Inter. He bags a wealth of experience, having featured in 157 Premier League matches while also appearing in 58 games in Serie A. Moreover, the defender has a record of winning the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Premier League, which is why Inter Milan have been linked with a move for him in the past as well.

The Spanish defender, though, is currently enjoying life at Chelsea. The defender had notably won the UEFA Champions League with the Blues last season and in the new campaign, it appears he has become the club’s first-choice left-back, ahead of Ben Chilwell.

Alonso has already featured in six league matches so far, bagging a goal and an assist, and even captaining the side for a while in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Not to mention, Chelsea themselves haven’t actively looked for a new left-back in the market and are rather focusing on central defensive targets like Niklas Sule or Pau Torres.

However, Chelsea will never shy away from the opportunity to add further talent to their squad. Alonso’s potential departure, in that regard, may offer them the chance to upgrade the ranks at left-back, especially if Chilwell fails to deliver during his limited opportunities in this new season.
