Transfer News: Real Madrid set €40 million asking price for Marco Asensio

Asensio could be on his way out of Real Madrid after this season

Real Madrid have set an asking price of €40 million on misfiring forward Marco Asensio who could be allowed to leave in the January transfer window.

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Real Madrid have slapped a valuation of €40 million on Marco Asensio amid speculations that he could be on his way out during the January transfer window.

Asensio has been at Real Madrid since 2015, having signed from fellow Spanish outfit RCD Mallorca. Immediately upon his arrival, the winger was sent out on loan to Espanyol, where he made a huge impression, prompting Real Madrid to hand him a spot in the first-team in the subsequent campaign.

Since then, Asensio grew into an important player for Los Blancos, until a serious injury sidelined him close to a year. Having returned to the fold in the last season, the 25-year-old looked well off the pace and struggled to produce the goods under then-manager Zinedine Zidane.

And while there have been some positives in the new season with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, like the hat-trick he socred against RCD Mallorca last month, the Spanish international is still not a confirmed starter for Real Madrid and is only seen as a rotation option at the moment.

This has led to huge speculations over his future heading into the January transfer window, with a host of top clubs across Europe considering the possibility of signing him in the winter. Indeed, Arsenal, who were rejected by the 25-year-old during the summer window, have rekindled their pursuit of the winger while Juventus are also keen on signing him up.

Now, as per the report, it is now being claimed that Real Madrid do not explicitly want to sell Asensio, but are aware that the likes of Eden Hazard, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior are ahead of him in the pecking order at the club and are seen as an integral part of the team moving forward.

As a result, should a sizeable offer arrive for Asensio during the mid-season trading period, they will be taken into consideration. However, the report adds that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will demand a sum of €40 million for the Spanish international.

A vastly talented player, Asensio has not looked at his best since lengthy injury layoff. Whether that leads to him leaving Real Madrid in the coming months will remain to be seen.
