Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to offload out-of-sorts midfielder, Dele Alli, in the summer transfer window of 2022.

According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have made the decision to offload midfielder Dele Alli next year after his steady decline over the past couple of seasons.

Signed from MK Dons in 2015, Alli became a huge hit at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino, forming a key part of the team alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min that rose to great heights. Once likened to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard due to his ability to score goals from midfield, the 25-year-old was a permanent fixture in the England national team as well.

However, Alli has been on a steady decline ever since Tottenham’s run to the finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2018/19. While there were some signs of resurgence early in Jose Mourinho’s tenure, they did not last long and the former MK Dons man ended up falling out of favour under the Portuguese and struggling for game-time.

Paris Saint-Germain tried to sign him in January earlier this year, but Daniel Levy blocked the move due to their unwillingness to meet his loan fee demands. Having stayed put, Alli failed to make the best of impressions during the rest of Mourinho’s tenure while things haven’t entirely improved under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo either, despite having started each of Spurs’ six league games this term.

Indeed, Alli was one of Tottenham’s poorest performers in the recent north London derby mauling at the hands of Arsenal. And, it seems like the Lilywhites have ran out of patience with their former wonderkid and are putting plans in place to offload the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window next year.

An exit in the January window is not an option as per the report, as Tottenham believe that Alli is unlikely to fetch a decent transfer fee based on his current form. Instead, the club want to keep hold of him till the end of the season in hope that his form improves which would then allow them to cash in on him for a sizeable amount, considering that he is contracted till 2024.

It is clear that things have hit the rocks for Alli at Tottenham. And, despite having been given ample time to find his feet again, the 25-year-old has failed to recover his best form. So, as things stand, an exit in the next year could be a strong possibility for the 25-year-old.
