Transfer News: Arsenal submit enquiry for Youssef En-Nesyri

Arsenal and Chelsea told to pay £65 million for Ivan Toney.

Arsenal have enquired about Yossef En-Nesyri and are ready to follow up on their initial interest by asking Sevilla for a price quote on the Moroccan.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Arsenal have approached Sevilla about 24-year-old Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri as they target a top-rated forward in the next windows, possibly next summer. Next summer, the Gunners are expected to have a shortage of strikers when some of their existing stars leave.

Youssef En-Nesyri announced himself onto the big stage after an impressive season with Sevilla. The Moroccan was in sensational form last term, scoring 24 goals in all competitions. Another season with similar numbers could push him into the elite category of strikers and he is sure to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs from Europe.

En-Nesyri is 24 years old and has a long-term future at any of the big sides in world football. However, his existing long-term contract with Sevilla could prompt the Spanish side to demand a sizable transfer fee from suitors. Arsenal are just one among many other sides who remain interested in the forward.

West Ham United were keen on signing him this past summer, although Sevilla’s heavy asking price might have forced them to look at alternatives. Other clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester United and even Liverpool were credited with interest early in the window.

Arsenal could now become the front-runners by registering their liking for the striker. The Premier League giants have asked Sevilla about the 24-year-old, and this enquiry might lead the Spanish side to quote their price for the Moroccan. The transfer fee could well be a massive one considering En-Nesyri’s goalscoring numbers.

The Gunners might have an immediate requirement to sign forwards next summer, with the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in doubt, as both have entered the last year of their respective deals. However, Arsenal are reportedly looking at En-Nesyri as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese striker only signed a new deal last summer, but his form has declined since. Mikel Arteta is hopeful Aubameyang will recover from his slump the previous season to fire for the side this season, and the Arsenal striker scored a hat-trick in his first start this season in the Carabao Cup.

However, the concerns around his long-term future seem to be bothering Arsenal to some degree. En-Nesyri could be the replacement Arteta might like, owing to his playing style and age. However, a January move may not be possible as Sevilla will not sell their important striker in the middle of the season, although next summer could be the time for the transfer.

It remains to be seen how much Sevilla demand for En-Nesyri from Arsenal or other suitors. The north Londoners will surely be hoping Aubameyang has a terrific season, but with Lacazette leaving next year, En-Nesyri could come and become Arsenal’s striker for the long-term future.
