Wolves are reportedly eyeing a late deadline day swoop for Olympique Marseille’s versatile defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

As we enter the final phase of the summer transfer window of 2021, The Athletic is reporting that Wolves are lining up a late raid on French club Olympique Marseille for the signing of 21-year-old midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

A product of the Marseille youth setup, Kamara broke into the first-team at the Ligue 1 club in 2017 and has since grown into a first-team regular. To date, the 21-year-old has racked up 125 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring three goals and setting up five more as well.

The nine-time capped France Under-21 international started out as a centre-back but has largely been used as a defensive midfielder in recent seasons. His versatility, coupled with the fact that his contract expires in less than a year, had led to plenty of interest from clubs in England with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United being linked.

Now, Wolves, too, have emerged as a suitor for the 21-year-old Kamara. This development comes after the West Midlands’ outfit decided to cede their pursuit of Renato Sanches, having appeared set to sign the Portuguese international early on the deadline day.

The timing of the speculations does come across as a bit intriguing considering that Ruben Neves, who has been the first-choice defensive midfielder for Wolves since his arrival in 2017, is being linked with a move to Tottenham and Manchester United.

Apart from Neves, Wolves also have Joao Moutinho, Leander Dendoncker as options for the deeper midfield positions, along with Bruno Jordao and Connor Ronan, both of whom are sidelined with injuries. Given the situation, it makes sense for Bruno Lage to bring in reinforcements, more so if there is a chance that Neves might be on the move before the window closes.

To that end, Fofana has been identified as the target, after a move for Sanches failed to materialise. It now remains to be seen if the Black Country outfit are able to taste success in prying away the 21-year-old from Stade Velodrome in the next few hours before the transfer window slams shut.
