Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hoping to complete a late deal for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma before the end of the transfer window on Tuesday.
According to the reports in Daily Express, Tottenham are looking to hijack Liverpool’s pursuit for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma and are preparing to table an 11th-hour proposal to bring the Malian enforcer to North London.
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo aims to bolster his midfield roster following the departure of Moussa Sissoko to Watford in a €5 million deal, while there are big doubts are surrounding the futures of Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks, with both are looking set to leave this summer.
Tottenham have signed a promising wonderkid in 18-year-old defensive midfielder Pape Matar Sarr. But, the young prodigy will be sent straight back to his previous club to have regular game-time. And while there’s no denying the fact that he’s one for the future, his return to Ligue 1 has left them a little vulnerable and short in numbers in the central midfield area, owing to which they have now turned their attentions to Bissouma.
The 24-year-old’s climb to the summit has been gradual as he struggled to adapt to Premier League football initially. But since the arrival of Graham Potter, he transformed into one of the key components at Seagulls and is at the heart of every attack and defensive action.
Bissouma’s technical ability and physical prowess enables him to impose himself in the centre of the park. He’s skilful and possesses a wide range of passing skills and the ability to break the opposition play which makes him an unstoppable midfield dynamo.
He’s particularly adept at dribbling it out from the tight spaces of the pitch, tricking the press with his ability, pace, and agility. Last campaign, he attempted 2.9 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per game.
The midfielder also successfully contested 1.2 aerial duels; judging by these numbers, one can mislead him as a defensive-minded player, but it’s in the advanced areas where he thrives in, with 1.2 shots, and 1.5 dribbles. He’s a perfect box-to-box package who is exceptional at ball carrying & progression.
His remarkable form has attracted strong interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. The Reds haven’t replaced Gini Wijnaldum, who left the club earlier in the window, while James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Thiago are all well into their thirties. And while they have some talented youth prospects coming through, such as Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones, Bissouma will only solidify their midfield ranks even more.
Fabio Paratici has done delightful business so far and brought the squad’s average age down by bringing in Bryan Gil, Sarr, Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini; securing a Premier League proven midfielder Bissouma would be the cherry on the cake.
He will be deemed an upgrade on Oliver Skipp and would improve their midfield massively by bringing more mobility. He will also reduce the creative workload of talisman Kane, who’s having to come deep to pick up the ball.
Bissouma still has 2 years left on his Amex contract and Brighton have set their asking price at £40 million- a reasonable fee nowadays for a first team player. What now remains to be seen is whether or not Spurs’ will move ahead with their quest for the Malian international in these remaining days of the transfer window.
