Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of teenage midfielder Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz, with the starlet headed back to the French club on loan.
As confirmed by the club’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur have made their fourth signing of the summer transfer window, completing the capture of Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined Metz only last year from the Generation Foot Academy in his homeland, Senegal. After a few matches with the B team, Sarr was fast-tracked into the senior squad and he repaid the faith with some fine displays in his debut season, becoming a mainstay in the middle of the park.
Sarr’s progress in his first year in Europe caught the eyes of several clubs in the Premier League including the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, apart from Tottenham. In fact, it had even been claimed that English champions Manchester City had jumped ahead of the queue for the signing of the Senegalese teenager.
However, soon enough it became clear that it was the Lilywhites that were emerging as the favourites to clinch the 18-year-old’s signing. Now, it has been confirmed that a deal has been completed, with Sarr officially becoming a Tottenham Hotspur player. However, the teenage prodigy will be sent back to Metz on loan for the rest of the 2021/22 season.

Sarr becomes the north London giants’ fourth signing of the summer, after the recruitments of Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero. With four exciting signings in the bag and Harry Kane staying put at the club, it is turning out to be quite a positive first transfer window for director Fabio Paratici and manager Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham.
