Tottenham have concluded a deal to sign Pape Sarr, with Metz set to receive €15 million for the 18-year-old.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are close to completing procedures with Metz over the transfer of talented midfielder Pape Sarr. The 18-year-old was mooted for a move after impressing last season, and the Ligue 1 club will receive a €15 million fee. The player will stay on loan at Metz for one more season.
Tottenham have made forward strides in their pursuit of young midfielder Pape Sarr and could immediately conclude the deal. Spurs have been in talks with Metz and have now agreed to a deal worth €15 million.
At one point, it seemed like Spurs were the only contenders, but a late flurry of eyeballs from other Premier League clubs could have derailed a move. However, the player was reportedly keen on joining Tottenham once their interest was clear, and the likes of late entrants Manchester City or Chelsea had no chance whatsoever.
Understandably, Tottenham’s offer was better than any other proposal received by Metz for Sarr. However, with the deal now close to competition, Romano confirmed that Sarr would stay at Metz for another season on loan to aid his development.

Tottenham do not need a new midfielder for the current season, with many players available in the positions. However, there are doubts over the future of Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks, but even if they leave, Spurs look covered in the central area.
Spurs might need a new player in midfield next season, and they will have Sarr come in next summer. However, he is not expected to dive straight into the starting lineup, and Nuno Espirito Santo considers him a brilliant addition for the future.
Sarr joined Metz from the Generation Foot academy in Senegal last year. After initially spending time with the reserve side, the teenager got his breakthrough in the senior team, as he made 25 appearances in all competitions in 2020/21, scoring four times.
He has continued his upward trajectory in the team, playing in all three games for Metz this season in Ligue 1, providing one assist. Tottenham will keep an eye on his development, and from how things are going, Sarr is likely to play a key role this season for the French club, before linking up with Spurs a year later.
