Tottenham are close to beating their competition and agreeing on a deal with Metz for highly-rated teenager Pape Matar Sarr.
According to Ignazio Genuardi, Tottenham are reportedly close to signing Pape Matar Sarr, a highly-rated teenager from Metz, in the coming days. It is a permanent deal, with the teenager set to spend a season on loan at the French side to aid his development.
As clubs face a race against time to sign first-team targets, there have been movements to secure few future prospects. One of them is Pape Matar Sarr, who has been impressive at French side Metz throughout last season. His performances have attracted the biggest clubs, and Spurs seems close to signing him.
Initially being placed in Metz’ reserve side, Sarr impressed his way up to the first team. The teenager went on to make 25 appearances last season scoring four goals. Along with Rennes’ sensation Eduardo Camavinga, Sarr has been one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe this summer.
Moreover, his talents are spread across various positions in midfield and attacking areas, with Sarr capable of holding the No.10 role or playing as a box-to-box midfielder. The teenager was signed by Metz from the Generation Foot academy and has a long-term contract with the French side.
However, with interest mounting and few financial difficulties across Ligue 1, Metz have seemingly decided to cash in on him. There were several clubs in the running, including Manchester City, who were touted as frontrunners earlier. However, it looks like Tottenham have stolen the march to move ahead of the queue.
Spurs have rekindled their interest in the teenager recently and have made an acceptable offer to Metz. The north London club aims to sign Sarr on a long-term contract while allowing him to remain at the French club for the upcoming season to aid his development.
There has been interest from other Premier League bigwigs such as Chelsea and Manchester United, although Tottenham could be his next destination soon. The amount Spurs are willing to pay remains unclear at this moment, although once the transfer is very close, details should emerge.
Signing Sarr could come as a big boost from Spurs as they have an eye over the club’s future. Currently embroiled in the Harry Kane saga, Tottenham are still expecting new faces to arrive. Recently they were linked with Granada’s Domingos Duarte as Nuno Espirito Santo aims to bring another defender. Furthermore, players currently at the club have an uncertain future, such as Serge Aurier and Tanguy Ndombele could be sold in the coming days.
