Tottenham Hotspur have tabled an official bid to secure the services of Pape Sarr, with the deal likely to take place in the coming days.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Pape Sarr. It appears the north London giants have finally tabled an official bid for the Metz midfielder in an attempt to prise him away from France.
Talks have been progressing well between the two sides, with Spurs likely to sign the 18-year-old on a loan deal. The deal could take place within the coming days, becoming a part of Fabio Paratici’s larger squad overhaul this summer.
There is no doubt that the Lilywhites are intent on undergoing a squad overhaul and are unhappy over the performances of Tanguy Ndombele. They are keen on offloading him and his French compatriot Moussa Sissoko in the summer, whereas Harry Winks has emerged as a target for Everton.
Nuno Espirito Santo has already vowed to start with Oliver Skipp, as the desired midfield partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. But in Sarr, he could find himself an excellent upgrade, one who can offer more defensively while enhancing the club’s approach play in the middle of the park.
Tottenham are certainly leading the chase to sign the Senegalese international. But the player was also courted by Manchester City due to his technical abilities and excellent positional awareness that could make him a potential asset at Spurs.
Sarr does lack experience at the highest level of football, though, having only featured in just 27 competitive matches since joining Metz last summer. But his sheer potential certainly makes him an exciting option and a long-term investment for the Spurs midfield.
It will be interesting to see how much the Lilywhites have to fork out in order to secure the services of the 18-year-old midfielder. Earlier reports had claimed a hefty price tag of £28 million, but given the current financial climate in Europe, Metz might be content with lowering their fee significantly.
How much Tottenham save in the pursuit of Sarr could play a vital role in their pursuit of Nikola Milenkovic. The Fiorentina centre-back centre-back is another top target for Paratici as he continues his spending spree after being hired as the managerial director for the north London giants this summer.
