Transfer News: Domenico Berardi on Leicester City’s radar

Leicester City are angling a move for Domenico Berardi before the month’s end, although Sassuolo are demanding €40 million for the Italy international.

According to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Italian winger Domenico Berardi is of interest to Leicester City, who wants to sign the player before the transfer window shuts. Sassuolo might be open to the idea of a transfer but could demand over €40 million for their prized asset.

Sassuolo could lose yet another star name before the transfer window shuts, with Domenico Berardi the latest player linked with a move away. While the Italian side are not particularly looking to sell, they could reconsider if a reasonable offer arrives.

Sassuolo’s CEO, Giovanni Carnevali, recently suggested that Berardi is more valuable to the club economically than Manuel Locatelli, who recently joined Juventus. In that sense, Sassuolo are asking €40 million for the Italian international, a price tag that may put off suitors, especially Leicester City.

Berardi’s impressive displays with Sassuolo and Italy have attracted clubs from the Premier League, although AC Milan is reportedly in the race. The player himself is open to a new opportunity and could be keen to test himself in the Premier League if presented with a chance.

Leicester City have made some good signings in this transfer window. They signed young attacker Paston Daka from RB Salzburg earlier while moving for Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton to cover for Wesley Fofana’s untimely injury.

The Foxes are well stacked in attack, although if Berardi’s quality is available, they should try to sign him. Leicester recently extended Harvey Barnes’ contract and seemed to have managed to retain Arsenal linked James Maddison’s services after the Gunners signed Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid. But with there being not many options in the wide areas, they could use with someone like Berardi in their ranks.

It remains to be seen if the Foxes are genuinely interested in Berardi or if it’s just a rumour. In any case, they will have to pay the hefty price of €40 million if they wish to sign the Italian, which would leave Sassuolo with no time to find a replacement.
