Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle each other for Wolves star Adama Traore who could be open to a new challenge this summer
According to Transfermarketweb, Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are set to go up against each other for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore this summer.
The 25-year-old was a talented yet uncut gem at Barcelona before jumping the gun and moving to Aston Villa where he struggled. Moving to the Molineux, after a brief stop at Middlesbrough, has proven to be an inspired decision, and he is now a household name in the Premier League.
A physically dominant player, Traore is not technically the most adept. However, he makes up for it with sheer physicality and his ability to run through defences and draw fouls. Traore enjoyed a brilliant 2019/20 season that saw him put in several eye-catching displays. He was, however, unable to repeat it the next season and was one of several Wolves stars who had a forgettable campaign.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s exit from Wolverhampton brought down the curtains to the end of an era at the Molineux. Having spent three years at the club, it could be time for a change, and Traore could be on his way this summer.
A player who is still rough around the edges, Traore could benefit from the attention of Jurgen Klopp. The German is a master in getting the best out of his players and could help Traore take the next step in his development.
With the unique blend of pace, power, and physicality, Traore would add something new to the Liverpool frontline. While it would be too much for him to turn into an unstoppable force of nature, his attributes could help make life easier for those around him.
In many ways, he could be an orchestrator of the ‘organized chaos’ that Klopp imbibes in his teams. As things stand, it isn’t easy to see him displace any one of Liverpool’s front three or even Diogo Jota. But then, alongside them, he would be another arrow in the Merseysiders’ quiver.
One could argue that Traore has a better chance of gaining more game time at Tottenham. More so, he could be reunited with former boss Nuno who is well aware of the player’s ability. A move to North London is not without its risks, however. Traore appeared to have reached the limit of his abilities under Nuno at Wolves, and it isn’t easy to see what the Portuguese can coax out of him at Spurs.
Valued at over £45m, it remains to be seen if the Reds are willing to fork out such an amount for a player who is still considered a work in progress. Meanwhile, Tottenham could have an advantage here, especially if they part ways with Harry Kane. He could be a part of a new-look Spurs side who will be embarking on a new project. The Spanish international has two years left on his current deal at Wolves.
Wherever he ends up, there is little doubt that work still needs to be done to make him a consistent performer.
